50 Inspirational WordPress Websites

Some people argue that WordPress is for blogs, I would argue that the best use is for a portfolio. Check out several of these businesses and individuals who’ve built their site’s for success.


Felicia Day is a talented actress who’s built an amazing career through the online show “The Guild” and did a phenomenal job in “Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog.” Her blog doesn’t disappoint, as its easy to use and packed with great content.


This site is a beautiful WordPress specimen that reminds me of a Japanese garden.


This is a very creative inspirational site and the content is very cleverly laid out.


Keeping things simple. The tree illustration is a great touch and tied the branding together well. We appreciated that each page was neat and concise. There was no contact page, but a contact form was on every page.


This site  incorporates a fun mideavil theme somewhat reminiscent of Don Quixote, plus, it’s WordPress! What’s not to love.


I wouldn’t have thought to use orange, but the little dogs with various artistic paraphernalia is wonderful.


Beautiful use of Watercolor on this WordPress site. This site was featured on one of our older blogs (we love watercolor and wash paintings).


A simple and extremely well designed inspirational website. ES Development also runs a great WordPress blog on their site too, lots of good information.


A WordPress portfolio website that has a super cool Batman theme. Looks like its showing off his 3D animation skills (can’t actually read the language its written in).

Social/Community

With BuddyPress or WordPress you can easily create an interactive online community with the right marketing tools. Below are several that we found to be quite intriguing.


This is a phenomenal example of what a WordPress site is capable of. Love this site and I sometimes peek at it for new inspiration.


Not only does this WordPress site host four news sites, it’s also home to discussions on various news topics.


Nikon held a video contest to celebrate their new camera by asking people to “Show us your day in 140 seconds.” The WordPress and social media functionality allows people who posted a video to share it on twitter and facebook from the Nikon Festival site too. Nicely convenient.


A great resource and blog for web designers. Very well organized content and navigation on the site.


Probably the most organized news website I’ve ever seen. Thank you WordPress.


Teach for Us links hundreds of blogs together. Behold the inspiring power of WordPress!


Colleges, perhaps more than most, have a need for their content to be current and accurate. WordPress allows that functionality and Lafayette College made good use of it.


This is inspiring because of the vastness of the project. The idea is to get individual stories written, recorded, or on video, and archive them.


A Christian church based organization in Southern Africa that wants to help with the aids epidemic and get other churches involved. Very inspiring.


Wait, a video game company has a WordPress site? Yep, that’s right. And it’s easy on the eyes too.


Joint Use has nothing to do with drugs, its all about utilizing local resources so parents and kids can get outside, exercise, and be healthy. It’s an online community that deals with the technicalities of the problems. Maybe not top marks in aesthetics, but the fact that they can use this single WordPress site to organize everything is quite impressive.


Because Canadians have awesome WordPress websites.


A nice list of restaurants in the Vancouver area. It includes Google maps integration, also includes the ability for users to write a review for a restaurant or add one to the list. There is also a useful blog. This site displays a wide range of WordPress potential.


This was a very inspiring WordPress site. There were three clear calls to action, nothing was overwhelming.

Blogs

Since we’ve looked at some great WordPress inspiration for business websites, let’s take a look at what people have cooked up for blogs. We were particularly impressed with these blogs because of their page design and focus on great content.


This colorful and inspirational blog was crafted on WordPress. Nice round… everything!


Want to save the earth? Sick and tired of dressing up in spandex all the time to fight crime at 2AM? Then learn how save the earth “Go Green” style via a WordPress blog.


Emerils.com is an inspirational website that holds an archive of recopies. There is also a shopping cart built into the website.


An inspiring WordPress blog for LIVESTRONG. There are some useful resource, categories, social media integration.


This site uses WordPress to showcase their products more than an eCommerce solution (which is what it looks like). Since you can upload photos it begs the questions, where do all the photos that are lost in cyber space go ^_^


Gotta love the design of this blog. I really wonder if it has received any awards.


If you’re one of those crazy people who shouts out “Myriad Pro” whenever you see the font (you know who you are), then you’ll love this blog. PS My husband sometimes does this in public.


This WordPress blog is interestingly organized because the articles are all displayed in full on the home page, not our preference. The blog allows searching by ‘popular’, ‘recent’, and ‘categories’.


Another WordPress blog, with some smooth and concrete design. Gotta love the layout.


This can be summed up as lots and lots of clouds. Starting on his second year, the author is dedicated to posting an innovative cloud picture every day on his WordPress website.

Good use of a dual header navigation. Loving the intricate use of colors on this inspirational website.


Most blogs that try to pull off a grunge desk look and bomb miserably. This one actually pulls it off decently well.


A WordPress site that focuses on the usage of music strategy. Has a blog and portfolio feel to it.


Business technology inspiration / news, what more can we say?


A clean, simple, and effective newspaper that has some nice reading options for the text.


The Pepsi refresh project has been a great way for the company to give back to the community. What makes Pepsi even better is that their blog now runs on WordPress!


One last WordPress blog. This one had an inquiringly clean and easy navigation. The pictures have a particularly docile and straightforward appeal here.

E Commerce

Don’t limit WordPress to just blogs and portoflios, its also capable of performing complex transactions since it really is just PHP at its core.


Shopping cart functionality with PayPal for their gift store section and the left side navigation was interesting. Almost a post modern piece of art.


There is a lot of information on the home page, but don’t be alarmed. What’s inspiring was the way they easily incorporated shopping functionality, it’s painless to make a purchases.


A WordPress site and blog for a book that is still on it’s way into stores. If the book is anything like the website it will be phenomenal.


Good calls to action and great use of illustrations. Sadly you can’t order online unless you reside in a specific part of Florida O_o Hope that their inspiring WordPress site helps them expand!


Atlantic Southeast Airlines doesn’t actually offer the ability to buy tickets on their site, but it does link to other pages that do. Still it’s a fine WordPress example and inspiring.


A WordPress website that gives you access to millions of songs? Sounds great to me!


It’s a magazine, sure, but in web format and powered by WordPress.


Flippa K is a clothing store that also allows their clients the convenience of shopping online.  It’s inspiring to see WordPress being chosen for a vast variety of sites. The only complaint is that slider on the home page is a little fast, but that’s it really.


Coffee, coffee, coffee, coffee, I love coffee. Even coffee made by goats… using WordPress.
